Review Sites Are Becoming The Source Layer For AI Software Buyers
In our stronger AI visibility run, assistants repeatedly pointed toward review sites, vendor pages, and SEO publications. That source layer may decide how buyers hear about your brand.

The hidden layer under AI answers
When a buyer asks an AI assistant about software, the answer feels direct. Underneath it is a source layer: review sites, vendor docs, comparison pages, news articles, analyst pages, and forums that shape the language the assistant uses.
In our stronger 10-company run, the same domains kept appearing as likely source clues around software buying questions. For CRM brands, G2, Capterra, TrustRadius, vendor pages, Gartner, Forrester, and Software Advice appeared repeatedly. For SEO tools, Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz, Search Engine Journal, Search Engine Land, Backlinko, G2, and Capterra appeared repeatedly.
Why this is more dangerous than a bad review
A bad review is visible. A bad AI summary is compressed and portable. If enough public sources say your product is expensive, hard to set up, weak for reporting, or risky for privacy, an assistant can repeat that pattern without sending the buyer to any one page.
That means review management, comparison content, documentation, and PR are no longer separate channels. They are inputs into the same answer layer.
The practical source audit
- Ask assistants which sources shape answers about your category.
- List the review sites, comparison pages, docs, and publications that appear repeatedly.
- Check whether those pages describe your category, pricing, limitations, and alternatives correctly.
- Fix your own public pages first, then work outward to profiles, reviews, partner pages, and earned media.
- Track whether the repeated language changes over time.
The article opportunity
For SEO, this creates strong pages such as 'the sources AI assistants trust for CRM software' or 'the sources AI assistants trust for SEO tools'. For GEO, it creates a clear action plan: improve the sources that assistants are likely to compress.
The brands that win will not only optimize their own website. They will manage the public evidence layer around the brand.
