A brand mention is any point where an AI assistant names your brand in its answer. In GEO, the position and the framing matter. Being mentioned first as a recommended option is very different from being a footnote.
Not all mentions are equal
A mention at the top of a recommendation list pulls weight. A mention buried at the end, or framed as the weaker option, does the opposite. Tracking mentions means tracking position and sentiment, not just presence.
What to look for
- Position: are you named first, or last?
- Framing: recommended, or merely listed?
- Sentiment: positive, neutral, or skeptical?
- Accuracy: is the claim attached to you correct?
