What is Mention Rate?
Mention rate is the share of relevant buyer questions where an AI assistant names your brand in its answer. Ask the questions your buyers actually ask, across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, and count how often you appear. That percentage, tracked over time, is your mention rate.
What a good measurement looks like
- A fixed panel of realistic buyer prompts, not cherry-picked brand queries
- The same prompts asked across multiple models
- Daily or weekly cadence, because answers drift with model updates
- Position tracked alongside presence: first named beats mentioned last
Interpreting movement
Mention rate moves for two reasons: something you did (new content, new coverage, better sources) or something the model did (a release, a retrieval change). Comparing your movement against competitors on the same prompts separates the two. If everyone dropped, it was the model.
