What is Google AI Mode?
AI Mode is Google's conversational search tab. Instead of ten blue links, it generates a full answer with Gemini, supports follow-up questions, and pulls sources through a technique called query fan-out, where one question is expanded into many sub-queries searched in parallel.
Why it matters for brands
AI Mode answers name few brands and cite few sources, so presence is winner-take-most. Because fan-out searches many reformulations of the question, covering a topic thoroughly across related questions matters more than ranking for one keyword.

AI Overviews are generated summaries placed on top of classic results. AI Mode is a separate, fully conversational experience. Both are built on Gemini, and both reward the same thing: content that is easy to retrieve, quote, and attribute.
