What is Conversational Search?
Conversational search is research done as a dialogue: you ask an assistant a question, get an answer, and refine with follow-ups, with the assistant remembering the thread. It replaces a series of separate keyword searches with one evolving conversation.
Why it changes buyer behavior
In classic search, each query is a fresh start and the buyer does the synthesis. In conversation, the assistant accumulates the buyer's constraints (budget, use case, dealbreakers) and narrows the field on their behalf. By the time a brand name reaches the buyer, most of the filtering has already happened inside the model.
What it means for content
The queries are longer, more specific, and phrased as real questions. Content that answers precise questions directly gets retrieved; content optimized around short keywords does not match how anyone talks. Write for the follow-up questions, not just the head term.
