What is llms.txt?
Last updated 2026-06-19
llms.txt is a simple file at the root of your domain that points AI models to your most important, machine-readable content. Think of it as a friendly map for assistants, the way robots.txt is for crawlers.
Why it can help GEO
Models work better with clean, structured input. An llms.txt file, plus plain Markdown versions of key pages, lowers the friction for an assistant to find and quote your facts correctly. It is early and not universally supported, but it is cheap to add and aligned with where things are heading.
What to put in it
- Links to your core pages and docs
- Short descriptions so the model knows what each is
- Pointers to clean Markdown versions where available
- Your most important, accurate brand facts
